WORLD CUP: Senegal beat Poland for first African team win

West African giants Senegal changed the script and became the first African country to win a game at the ongoing World Cup in Russia.

Prior to the Tuesday game, all African teams had lost their opening group games but this was not the case with the Lions of Teranga who defied the odds to beat Poland by two goals to one in their group H opening game at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow.

Poland however died trying when Grzegorz Krychowiak headed home a free-kick at the far post in the 86th minute for his team to grab a consolation goal.

Earlier in another game in the group, Japan had beaten 10 man Colombia by two goals to one.

Japan is top of Group H with Senegal in second position after one game.
